SweMaint has a leading role in the Nordics in repair and maintenance services for freight wagons. With our own workshops in twelve locations from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north, we meet customers needs at strategic junctions.
In 2023, the parent company Kockums Industrier acquired Midwaggon Ånge, whose focus is to service and maintain locomotives. Thus, maintenance of electric locomotives was also strategically added to SweMaint’s already comprehensive service offer.
On May 1, 2025, SweMaint consolidates the group’s basic idea from 2007 of industrial logic and breadth when Locomotives becomes its own business area and is organizationally added to the company’s existing range, consisting of the areas Wagon Maintenance, Wheel Maintenance, Wheel Pool, Material Supply, 24/7 Salvage and clearance.
The organization is designed to maximize customer benefit and make better use of synergy effects. The overall goal is to broaden and strengthen customer engagement with already existing customers and in the same way approach new ones.
Planned, and to trigger the process, the strategically significant update in the organization takes place in parallel with the premiere of the company’s new business system.
“With a new structure and with Locomotive as our own business area, we further refine our service offering – something that benefits rail freight traffic, its competitiveness and the railway’s future”, explains Peter Overup, CEO SweMaint.
The new organization will come into force on 1 May 2025, but already on 1 October this year, Peter Overup will also become CEO of Midwaggon. Outgoing CEO Lars Björn, who has actually reached retirement age, takes a step back and instead, but quite logically, becomes Key Account Manager, Business Area Locomotive, where his valuable special knowledge and contact areas naturally become a decisive asset.
