In a world where the combination of transport and environmental awareness is gaining in importance, playing our part in advancing the only “green” land transport option is essential. Most people agree that long-haul road shipments should be moved over to rail. But the clear environmental and traffic safety benefits of rail transport must be matched in terms of commercial competitiveness as well.
We believe in the future of rail transport, and we are ready and willing to cooperate with anyone who shares this vision and wants to make it a reality. In addition to the potential for monetary gain, we have every opportunity to make a real, long-term contribution to the critical task of lowering our collective environmental footprint.
SweMaint’s contribution to a cleaner global environment is rooted in a holistic environmental approach to our products and services. Efforts to minimise our environmental impact are always prioritised in our processes. Although everything we do as humans impacts the environment, we are unwavering in our belief that we can create a sustainable future together.
SweMaint’s own operations shall:
• Have the least possible environmental impact,
• Comply with applicable laws, statutes and regulations
• Be continuously improved in order to raise efficiency and decrease environmental impact.
SweMaint’s environmental efforts have been rooted in our ISO 14001 environmental certification since 2010. This certification guides the whole company's environmental efforts. We have also used environmental reviews to identify material environmental aspects, goals and environmental improvement programmes over the years, and these are reported and evaluated annually during our management review (see 2017/2018 Sustainability Report below).
• Freight shipments
• Business trips
• Electricity
• District heating
In 2017, all employees took courses on chemical products, their associated health risks, and iChemistry, a digital service that facilitates the day-to-day management of chemical products. iChemistry also hosts the company’s chemicals register, material safety and health data sheets, labels, and more. Additionally, the service can conduct risk assessments on relevant products and generate reports, which is sometimes requested by government agencies. Our goal is for all of our business locations to have a uniform range of chemical products as a basis, with a maximum of 120 different products – all with the least possible environmental impact.
Following the legislation governing the extent of the company's environmental impact is the hygiene factor. That’s why SweMaint uses Notisum, a compliance monitoring system that continuously provides update notifications for laws and regulations that affect the company and its business. Updates from Notisum are then managed in our intranet via a log and a plan of action. This in turn results in a recurring monthly review and follow-up.
